School Mock Court Case Project SCIO, a registered charity in Scotland, is looking for solicitors, trainees, paralegals, and advocates to tutor their Junior programmes. The pupils are in P6 and P7 (located in Ayr, East (Edinburgh and East Lothian), Hamilton, Inverness and Glasgow) and for their senior programmes with pupils in S3 to S6 (located in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Students participating in the programmes are given a court case scenario and assigned various roles, such as lawyers, witnesses, or court staff. They are tasked with producing essential court documents and presenting their case before a Sheriff in a competitive setting, pitting their skills against an opposing team. Volunteers are asked to work closely with students to help them compile legal documents, prepare arguments, and understand courtroom procedures.
This initiative not only helps students gain a deeper understanding of the legal system but also fosters critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork skills. By volunteering, legal professionals can make a lasting impact on young minds and contribute to the development of future leaders in Scotland.
