Join as a student

Student membership of the WS Society offers benefits at the very start of your career. These include use of the outstanding Signet Library for study and research, CV consultation and interview preparation, participation in education events, networking opportunities and the WS Summer Law Scholarship programme. Student membership of the WS Society is the ideal way to develop a rounded legal interest outside of the lecture hall. For further information and how to join please see Membership.

Student series

The WS Society runs a student programme to inspire early-stage lawyers and law students entering the legal profession.

Speed Networking

Students are invited to join a number of leading lawyers, from trainee to partner, devil to advocate, who work in private practice, government, academic and in-house legal roles. Students will have the opportunity to network for around 5/6 minutes with each professional in attendance. This event is designed to allow students to build their professional networks with leading individuals and learn about the variety of legal careers available to them.

Tuesday 25 March | 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm | The Signet Library, Edinburgh

ADENTURES IN LAW

Hear from leading lawyers about their career. At this event a panel of senior practitioners will discuss their careers to date. The event offers an opportunity for students and early stage lawyers to hear honestly from senior lawyers as they discuss their experiences and route to the profession.

Details of the 2025 Adventures in Law panel will be featured here shortly.

Summer scholars programme

The WS Summer Scholars programme offers a unique opportunity to participants to raise their profile and sharpen their research and presentation skills in preparation for the world of legal work. The programme is tailored each year to cover contemporary legal issues and will include an assigned, team-based research project, working towards a presentation to external delegates and the production of a report for publication.

The programme is open to 3rd and 4th year students from the four year LLB undergraduate degree, 2nd year students from the accelerated LLB Degree and Diploma students.

Applications for the Summer Law Scholarship programme 2025 are now open. Please submit a CV and covering letter to Matthew Bruce, Trainee Solicitor, at mbruce@wssociety.co.uk.
