MICHAEL CLANCY OBE WS AWARDED RSE FELLOWSHIP

We congratulate Michael for this tremendous achievement and wish him every success with his future endeavours.

Earlier this month, the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) has announced its 2024 cohort of Fellows. RSE is Scotland’s National Academy, founded in 1783, for the advancement of learning and useful knowledge. Every year, the Society announces a cohort of new Fellows, consisting of distinguished individuals across a range of disciplines in academia, business, and public service.

This year, among the pre-eminent nominees is Michael Clancy OBE WS, Director of Law Reform at the Law Society of Scotland, where he has held this post since 1996. Michael is also secretary of the United Kingdom and Ireland Notarial Forum and is Chairman of the International Bar Association’s Constitution and Governance Committee. Following the EU Referendum, he has represented the Law Society on Brexit issues in the UK and Scottish Parliaments, appearing several times before parliamentary committees on a range of issues concerning the UK’s departure from the EU. He is a member of the International (formerly Brexit) Law Committee established by the Lord Chancellor and the Lord Chief Justice of England. He was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Jubilee Birthday Honours List in June 2002.

Michael was admitted as a Writer to the Signet in June 2022.

We congratulate Michael for this tremendous achievement and wish him every success with his future endeavours.
