GOVERNANCE AND CHARITIES: WEEK IN PICTURES

On Monday 23 September 2024 WS trainee solicitor Diana Stoica attended the “Inclusion through Cultural Intelligence” event at Parliament Hall, alongside our clients Disabling Barriers Scotland (DBS), represented by Fraser Mackay (DBS Co-founder). DBS is quickly establishing itself as a pioneer organisation in the DEI field, providing support resources, training, and a network for individuals with disabilities navigating the Scottish legal profession.

The event was hosted by Diversity+ and was aimed at raising awareness and fostering dialogue on the abundance of diverse Scottish legal talent, focussing on the benefits that cultural diversity brings to the profession. The evening included interviews with Sheila Webster WS, Past President of Law Society of Scotland, and Sheriff Principal Aisha Anwar, who was recently made Honorary King’s Counsel; a CPD Panel titled 'Inclusion through cultural intelligence: many cultures, one legal profession'; and a reflective interview with the Right Honourable Lady Wise KC.

On Tuesday 24 September, Sophie Mills WS and Patricia Cheney assisted in hosting the Scottish Grantmakers Annual Conference.

Scottish Grantmakers is a membership organisation for grant making charities working in Scotland. Their charitable purposes are to share best practice in grant making to promote the voluntary sector and the effectiveness of charities. The charity has been a client of the WS Society since 2021.

Julie Hutchison WS of LGT Wealth Management presented on the various ways individuals can give back to charities:

"There’s more than you think within your gift. Whether you choose to amplify that opportunity is up to you!"
