The John Watson's Trust awards grants to children and young people under 21 years old who have a physical or learning disability or who are in a situation of deprivation. The criteria of the Trust states that grants awarded should be for educational purposes and are available to individuals or organisations working with eligible young people. Although the Trust operates primarily within Edinburgh and the Lothians, funds may be allocated Scotland wide depending on each individual case.
Our committee meets five times each year and distributes approximately £150,000 annually in grants ranging from £30 to £2,000.
The deadline for the next Grants meeting is Friday 16 August
Examples of grants awarded include:
- Dyslexia tuition
- School trips (must be applied for by the school and not individuals)
- Bus passes
- School expenses such as books and equipment
- Laptops where there is a special education need
The Trust also awards grants towards boarding school fees: however, these are exceptional cases and where personal circumstances make boarding beneficial. No day school fees are funded.
